FC Twente's Douglas claims Newcastle interest

FC Twente defender Douglas has today claimed that Newcastle United are one of several interested clubs as he seeks a move away from Enschede according to ESPN.

The talented centre back has enjoyed a five year spell with FC Twente after signing from Brazilian side Joinville and it looks as if Manager Steve McClaren will have his work cut out in order to keep the defender at the club.

Speaking to NuSport the 24-year-old said¬†“Five clubs are interested and there’s a bigger club than Newcastle. I cannot still say anything about it, but I hope soon to have my new club.

Newcastle look for Ba replacement

Newcastle have earmarked Luuk De Jong as their insurance should they lose Demba Ba this summer. The Daily Mirror have reported that the Tyneside club have been watching the Dutch youngster for two years and are now thinking about an offer. They are expecting to lose Ba for £7 million, with Tottenham being the favourites to sign the Senegalese striker and believe that De Jong will be available for the same amount.

FC Twente won’t be too keen on selling the highly rated attacker after he netted 32 goals in 50 games for the Eredevisie side last season, although manager Steve McClaren has admitted it will be hard to keep him. The Dutch international has played seven games for his country, scoring once.
