Fergie's fury at £72 million trio

According to the Daily Mail, Sir Alex Ferguson has blasted the prices he has been quoted for three of the players on his transfer list. The Mail claim that a total of £72 million for Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote (£20 million), Everton’s Leighton Baines (£20 million) and Tottenham’s Luka Modric (£32 million) has left Fergie fuming.

Given that this Premier League trio are all regular first team starters for their respective clubs it is hardly surprising that their price tags are so high, but the Manchester United boss feels that they are extortionate and refuses to overpay. Sir Alex is no stranger to setting a high price himself, charging Real Madrid £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 and £25 million for David Beckham in 2003.
