With just over a day of the transfer market left, Man City are considering a serious late bid for Leicester City’s Algerian star Riyad Mahrez. But the Foxes, who have let Ahmed Musa and Leonardo Ulloa go on loan to Spartak and Brighton respectively, are, as expected, not pleased to let one of their star players go this late in the window, but will reportedly consider all “exceptional” offers.
Whether the 60 million pound bid that City are considering making qualifies as exceptional, we’re not sure, with Leicester wanting more in wake of the insane amounts that the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Virgil van Dijk have commanded in this window. West Ham have moved to strengthen their midfield options by signing Joao Mario from Inter Milan. The Portuguese star, a Euro 2016 winner, has moved for increased playing minutes with a view to making the Seleccao’s Euro 2018 squad, and could see plenty of action with Manuel Lanzini expected to be out for an extended period of time following the injury he picked up in the club’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth Continue reading “West Ham sign Joao Mario”
Fourth tier outfit Stevenage have agreed a deal with Arsenal to take youngster Ben Sheaf on loan till the end of the season. The teenager, a central midfielder by trade, becomes Stevenage’s second signing of the winter transfer window after Tom King (from Millwall, also on loan) Continue reading “Stevenage take Ben Sheaf on loan from Arsenal”
Everton have completed the signing of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas. The Turkish international has moved for a £27 million transfer fee and Toffees fans will be hoping that he can fill the goal scoring void left by Romelu Lukaku’s summer departure to Manchester United.
Tosun has put pen to paper a four year deal that will tie him to Goodison Park till 2022 Continue reading “Everton sign Cenk Tosun from Besiktas”
Javier Hernandez has moved to quell rumours saying that the Mexican international wants to leave West Ham for Spain, by saying that he is very happy at the London Stadium.
Rumours said Hernandez’s girlfriend, Andrea Duro, wanted him to move to Spain, and there would be no shortage of suitors in the Spanish top flight for Chicharito- in fact there were La Liga clubs wishing to sign him before he opted for a return to the Premier League with West Ham Continue reading “Javier Hernandez refutes Spain exit rumours”
Liverpool scouts were present at Germany U19’s clash against Belarus last night, with one of their targets, Leverkusen youngster Kai Havertz starring for Die Mannschaft with four goals and an assist. The attacking midfielder turned 18 two months ago, but is already rated as one of the hottest talents in the Bundesliga Continue reading “Kai Havertz Liverpool? Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a move for Juventus star Paulo Dybala. The 23 year old, who is the Bianconeri’s second highest earner after Gonzalo Higuain, has been in a stunning form for the Old Lady, netting 10 goals in six games so far in the 2017/18 season. That’s an incredible stat, given he scored only 11 times in 31 appearances for Juve last season, and is perhaps another indication that he is entering his prime.
With Eden Hazard likely to commit to Chelsea and moves for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kylian Mbappe not working out, Real have identified the Argentine as their potential new Galactico. There is also talk of a move for Antoine Greizmann, although whether Atleti will sell the Frenchman to their cross town rivals is another story in itself. Continue reading “Paulo Dybala to Real Madrid? Will the Argentine be the next Galactico?”
German gaffer Thomas Tuchel has allegedly rejected an opportunity from West Ham United to become their manager. Tuchel was sounded out by the Hammers board as a potential candidate to replace the under pressure Slaven Bilic, but he has said no to the offer to move to the London Stadium.
West Ham have had a tough start to the new season. While one could argue it was due to the fact that they played their first few games away from home (owing to Athletics commitments for the London Stadium), WHUFC fan blogs like this one have indicated that Bilic’s tactics have sometimes left much to be desired- for example playing Javier Hernandez on the wing instead of utilising his real potential at centre forward.
West Ham are currently third from bottom in the league standings and after their weekend loss to Tottenham Hotspur, the upcoming fixture against Swansea is being talked about as a “must win” for Bilic.
Other candidates being considered by the West Ham board allegedly include Huddersfield Town’s David Wagner, Fulham’s Slavisa Jokanovic and even Napoli’s Maurizio Sarri (although few would expect him to move given the Partenopei’s stunning start to the season)
Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen is reportedly weighing up a move for former Arsenal medio Fran Merida. The Spaniard was once tipped by Arsene Wenger to be the next Cesc Fabregas, but hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential and after spells with the Gunners, Atleti, Hercules, Atletico Paranaense and Huesca, is currently plying his trade with Osasuna in the Spanish second tie. The club, despite Merida’s best efforts, were relegated from La Liga last season.
Leeds are currently joint top of the Championship table, having beaten Ipswich 3-2 over the weekend, but Christiansen has earmarked several targets to strengthen his squad in the winter, with the club having narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season after finishing 7th.
The Whites are currently in Wales preparing for a midweek Championship fixture against Cardiff City.
According to reports, Diego Costa rejected an offer to stay in the Premier League, snubbing Everton in favour of a return to his former club Atletico Madrid.
The Toffees, who have been one of the highest spenders in the recently concluded summer transfer window, had an ambitious £66m bid accepted by the Blues, but Costa felt his career would be better served in Madrid rather than on Merseyside, and rejected Ronald Koeman’s side.
Koeman also tried to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal in the recently concluded window, but failed.
Everton currently have only two wins from six Premier League games, with Oumar Niasse’s double over the weekend against Bournemouth effectively saving their manager from the drop (also their first league goals in over a month)
